GREAT
SHOTS.
This page will be updated from time to time, and I invite anybody with an
interesting photograph of their Garden Railway to send it as an attachment
to me here, and hopefully be included on this page shortly. A brief description
would be appreciated. It is understood that your railway location will be
treated with complete confidentiality unless you offer a clear invitation
for other enthusiasts to contact you by email.
This picture was not 'stage managed', the sun was shining and 'The Super
Chief' had just pulled in to my main line station and my camera was nearby.
Like all railroaders I thought, wow, that looks pretty good, let's take it!
The poor guy with the suitcases has been standing there holding them for
two months now (I think he was blown over once) A couple of interesting things
that always come light when you look at pictures retrospectively. The small
bottle, that looks big, which has inadvertently been left at the end of the
platform is an eyedrop bottle for smoke fluid.
These bottles have now been replaced with syringes which eliminate the usual
spillage around the smoke stack.
Secondly the perspective of height difference between the Aristo' FA-1/FB-1/FA-1,
and the Streamlined Passenger Cars is exaggerated by the angle of the camera.
However there is a difference, and I have friends who have lowered their
carriages to bring them in line. Unfortunately this means removing parts
of the under carriage infrastructure to prevent track fouling, so you can
improve one aspect but spoil another. I understand the manufacturers have
modifications in hand to deal with this. The freight cars on the far side
are the Aristo' 40' steel reefer cars of the West India Fruit & Steamship
Co. (via. the Florida-Havana Rail car Ferries)...I wish!
