Main Line Thurnby
Multiple
Locomotive Movement
Running
a large scale mainline is comparable to running a 'proper' railway in as
much that we try to restrict running to a 'one train in a section' at
any one time.
Collisions can be expensive, and can happen with a driver losing concentration
regardless of whether or not you are running analog or digital. The locomotive
yard and shed roads can be a hazard zone for obvious reasons. The yard also
comprises of several holding and dispatch sidings, plus the two road loco.
shed which, together with the twin approach roads can hold eight engines.
For movement in and out of the sheds and for trains arriving and departing
to and from the main body of the yard, we firstly had to insure that arrivals
from the outer main could carry their complete train length into either of
the two receiving sidings. This would only be convenient if the driver continues
to use his own outer road remote, and not interfere with the yardman shunting
his switcher with the yard remote.
All locomotives therefore will be standing in insolated sections with
the (lit) tall lamp posts as section markers.
