Santa-Fe '45' No. 5435 pushes a rake of C.&N.W. carriage stock from the 'holding' yards beyond the suburban station (background) and along into Chicago's Dearborn Street passenger terminal. Traffic movements of this type, normally reserved for 'Switchers', raise the opportunity to appreciate the close up details of the SD series. The dramatic effect of light and shadow in the picture shows the pleasing design of this locomotive, and also the clever combination of the simple colours, partly due to the foresight of those early railroad folk responsible for such matters. The fact that these are 'large scale' 1/29 must surely endear us to those model manufacturers who are clearly striving for perfection within the logistics of price and distribution costs. |
